Jesus had escaped death and had disguised himself as a gardener. In John 20:14 it shows that Mary Magdalene was speaking to Jesus and did not know it. John 20:14 And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus. Jesus asks Mary Magdalene an obvious question. He knows that she’s looking for him, but he’s hiding out as a gardener. It states in John 20:15 Jesus saith unto her, Woman why weepest thou? Whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away. In John 20:16-16 Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master. (Mary Magdalene said that she wanted to “take him away”. Ask yourself, how is this woman going to take away a dead body by herself?) She knew that Jesus was alive.
Mary Magdalene could not see that she was speaking with Jesus whom she knew very well. He had disguised himself as a gardener because he feared that the Jews would find out that he had escaped death. Have you ever wondered why if Jesus had already been crucified, died, and resurrected, why is he disguising himself as a gardener?  According to the Bible you can only die once. Hebrews 9:27 it is ordained unto all men once to die, and after that the judgment. In her joy and excitement she reaches out to hug Jesus. Jesus says in John 20:17 Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father. Note: It is very important to remember Mary Magdalene’s reaction when she first saw Jesus after his alleged crucifixion. Her reaction was quite different from the disciple’s reaction when they first saw Jesus.
(4) Jesus proves to the disciples that he did not die on the cross.
When the disciples were in the upper room with the door shut for fear of the Jews, Jesus appeared before them. Luke 24:36 And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the mist of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. The first words that Jesus spoke to them were “Peace be unto you”. (This is the same way the Muslims around the world greet each other, As-Salaam-Alaikum which means peace be unto you) The Bible says that when they saw Jesus they thought that they were seeing a spirit. Luke 24:37 But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit. (Remember Mary Magdalene didn’t think that she was seeing a spirit when she first saw Jesus because she was an eye witness to the alleged crucifixion and she knew that Jesus did not die on the cross. The disciples were not eye witnesses to the alleged crucifixion because they all fled, Mark 14:50 And they all forsook him, and fled. They had heard that Jesus died.
